A Date Which Will Live in Infamy
On this 70th anniversary, we remember those who were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor.  With Germany's army raging across Europe, the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 transformed the war into a global conflict.  The United States immediately declared war on Japan and on December 11, Germany declared war on the United States.  Adolf Hitler was convinced he could not lose the war, but in this he fatally underestimated the massive and as yet unrealized potential of the American war machine.  Germany and Japan would both surrender in 1945, putting an end to World War II.
