Every state in the United States has claimed a
state bird, but six states have even claimed a state dinosaur
(separate from the state bird), despite the fact that scientists
now say they're related.
Many states have dinosaurs as state
fossils, but that is separate from claiming a dinosaur as a
state’s dinosaur. It is unclear how a state decides to
claim a state dinosaur or why they do it. Perhaps fossils
were found in the state and it is in their honor that they claim
the dinosaur as its own.
