Things got a little loud in the Illinois State Legislature
Tuesday.
Congressman Mike Bost lost his cool as lawmakers were
debating a controversial pension reform bill. Bost tossed
the bill in the air in disgust, complaining that it had arrived
on the house floor before lawmakers had a chance to read it.
The bill included a plan to shift the burden
of the state’s pension costs from Chicago residents to suburban
and downstate districts, a plan the Republicans oppose, and
Democrats approve of.
Waving his fists in the air and throwing paper in the air, Bost
screamed, "Total power in one person's hands? That is not the
American way. ... I got to try to figure out how to vote for my
people. ... You should be ashamed of yourselves."
"I feel like somebody trying to be
released from Egypt! Let my people go!" Bost bellowed,
quoting Moses from the 1965 Charlton Heston Epic "The Ten
Commandments."
