Breaking News: The head of the Libyan military council said
that Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi was killed Thursday as fighters
battling the vestiges of his fallen regime wrested control of
his hometown of Surt after a prolonged struggle.
Information Minister Mahmoud Shammam told
the AP that he had confirmed that Gadhafi was dead from rebels
who said they saw the body.
NATO and the U.S. State Department said
they could not confirm the reports, but were attempting to find
out exactly what had happened.
